Section 1

(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner (Northern Ireland) Order 1990 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

(2) This Order extends to Northern Ireland only.

Section 2

(1) In section 50(1) of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 for the words “1982 and in each tenth year thereafter” there shall be substituted the words “1990 and thereafter in accordance with subsection (1A)” .

(2) After the said section 50(1) there shall be inserted the following subsection—

(1A) A Local Government Boundary Commissioner shall be appointed under subsection (1) during the period not less than ten or more than fifteen years from the date of the submission under subsection (4) of the final report on the last previous review under subsection (1).
