Section 1Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Transport (Guided Systems) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 7th December 1992.

Section 2Specified systems

The Secretary of State hereby specifies for the purposes of Chapter I of Part II of the Act the systems which use a mode of guided transport of which particulars are given in the Schedule to this Order.

Section 3Interpretation

(1) In this Order—

“magnetic levitation” means a mode in which the vehicles are supported and guided by means of magnetic force;

“monorail” means a mode in which the vehicles are supported and guided wholly or mainly by means of a single rail or beam; and

“track-based with side guidance” means a mode in which the vehicles are—

supported by means of a track or other structure not being a road; and

guided wholly or mainly by means of horizontally-inclined wheels bearing outwards against fixed apparatus.

(2) In this Order “road” has the same meaning as in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 .
