Section 1 Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the M4 Motorway (Severn Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1995 and shall come into force on 1st October 1995.

Section 2 Interpretation

In these Regulations “motorway” has the meaning given in regulation 3(1) of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 .

Section 3 Speed limit

No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 40 miles per hour on a carriageway of the length of motorway specified in the Schedule to these Regulations at any time when—

(a) there is placed at the beginning of that carriageway a traffic sign of the size, colour and type shown in the diagram numbered 670 in Schedule 2 to the Traffic Signs Regulations 1994 ; and

(b) that sign is directed at traffic intending to proceed along that carriageway.
