Section 1 Citation and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the Marriage Act 1994 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1995.

(2) In this Order “ the Act ” means the Marriage Act 1994.

Section 2 Appointed days

(1) 24th February 1995 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act—

(a) section 1(2) of the Act (approval of premises— marriages on approved premises) so far as it inserts sections 46A and 46B(2) in the Marriage Act 1949 ;

(b) section 1(3) of and the Schedule to the Act (approved premises: consequential amendments) so far as it inserts section 51(1A) in the Marriage Act 1949.

(2) 1st April 1995 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act—

(a) section 1(1) (solemnization of marriages on premises approved by local authorities);

(b) section 1(2) (marriages on approved premises), so far as not already in force on that date;

(c) section 1(3) of and the Schedule to the Act (approved premises: consequential amendments), so far as not already in force on that date;

(d) section 2(1) (registration districts in which marriages may be solemnized), so far as not already in force on that date.
