Section 1Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the United Nations Arms Embargoes (Former Yugoslavia) (Amendment) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 30th July 1996.

(2) In this Order “ the Order ” means the United Nations Arms Embargoes (Liberia, Somalia and the Former Yugoslavia) Order 1993 .

(3) This Order, the United Nations Arms Embargoes (Liberia, Somalia and the Former Yugoslavia) Order 1993 and the United Nations Arms Embargoes (Amendment) (Rwanda) Order 1994 may be cited together as the United Nations Arms Embargoes Orders 1993 to 1996.

Section 2Amendment of article 2 of the Order

(1) The definition of “the former Yugoslavia” in article 2 of the Order shall be omitted.

(2) The definition of “prohibited destination” in article 2 of the Order shall be replaced by the following—

“prohibited destination” means Liberia, Somalia or Rwanda;

(3) The definition of “prohibited goods” in article 2 of the Order shall be replaced by the following—

“prohibited goods” means—

goods of a description specified in Group 1 of Part III of Schedule 1 to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994 ; and

goods which are or may be intended, wholly or in part, to be used in connection with the development, production, handling, operation, maintenance, storage, detection, identification or dissemination of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons or the development, production, maintenance or storage of missiles capable of delivering such weapons.

Section 3Amendment of article 3 of the Order

(1) In paragraph (1) of article 3 of the Order the words “the Serbia and Montenegro (United Nations Sanctions) Order 1992 or the Serbia and Montenegro (United Nations Sanctions) Order 1993” shall be omitted.

(2) Paragraph (5) of article 3 of the Order shall be replaced by the following:

(5) Paragraph (1) of this article shall not apply to prohibited goods delivered or supplied to a prohibited destination by or on behalf of the United Nations or the peace-keeping forces of the Economic Community of West African States.

Section 4Amendment of article 8(8) of, and paragraph 4 of the Schedule to, the Order

In paragraph (8)(c) of article 8 of the Order and in paragraph 4(c) of the Schedule to the Order the words “or the former Yugoslavia” shall be omitted.
