Section 1 Title and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Code of Practice on Environmental Procedures for Flood Defence Operating Authorities (Internal Drainage Boards and Local Authorities) Approval Order 1996 and shall come into force on 1st January 1997.

Section 2 Approval of Code of Practice

The Ministers approve the code of practice issued by them entitled “Code of Practice on Environmental Procedures for Flood Defence Operating Authorities” for the purpose of —

(a) giving practical guidance—

(i) to internal drainage boards with respect to the matters for the purposes of which sections 61A and 61C of the Land Drainage Act 1991 have effect, and

(ii) to local authorities with respect to the matters for the purposes of which sections 61B and 61C of the Land Drainage Act 1991 have effect; and

(b) promoting what appear to the Ministers to be desirable practices by internal drainage boards or, as the case may be, local authorities, with respect to those matters.
