Section 1 Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Gas Volume Meters) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 11th March 1996.

(2) In these Regulations, “the 1988 Regulations ” means the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) Regulations 1988 as applied to gas volume meters by the Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Gas Volume Meters) Regulations 1988.

Section 2 Amendment of the 1988 Regulations

In their application to Great Britain, the 1988 Regulations shall have effect on and after the day on which these Regulations come into operation with the substitution, for each reference to the Secretary of State, of a reference to the Director General of Gas Supply (hereinafter, “the Director”).

Section 3 Power of Director to charge fees

The Director may charge such reasonable fees as he may determine in respect of any costs reasonably incurred by him for the purpose of —

(i) an examination of any pattern of instrument submitted to him in accordance with regulation 8 of the 1988 Regulations (EEC pattern approval);

(ii) considering such an application as is mentioned in regulation 13 of the 1988 Regulations (EEC initial verification); and

(iii) re-examining meters bearing the mark of EEC initial verification under regulation 4 of the Gas (Meters) Regulations 1983.

Section 4 Revocation of S.I. 1983/1247

The Measuring Instruments (EEC Requirements) (Gas Volume Meters) (Fees) Regulations 1983 are hereby revoked.
