Section 1 Citation and entry into force

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Registration of Overseas Births and Deaths (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st July 1997.

(2) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations ” means the Registration of Overseas Births and Deaths Regulations 1982 .

Section 2 Amendment of the principal Regulations

(1) The principal Regulations shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this Regulation.

(2) In Regulation 5(1), after paragraph (f), there shall be added the following:

(g) the birth of a person, born on or after 1st July 1997, who was at birth a British Overseas citizen under the provisions of paragraph 6(2) of the Hong Kong (British Nationality) Order 1986 .

(3) In Regulation 8, paragraph (1)(a), after the words “British citizen,” there shall be inserted the words “British National (Overseas),”.
