Section 1 Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Exemption) (Craven, Kerrier and Mid-Devon District Councils and Middlesbrough Borough Council) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 6th August 1997.

Section 2 Exemption of activities

(1) The management of sports and leisure facilities shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as it is carried out—

(a) by Craven District Council before 1st April 2000; or

(b) by Kerrier District Council before 1st October 1997; or

(c) by Mid-Devon District Council during the period beginning with 1st January 1998 and ending with 31st December 1998.

(2) The provision of legal services by Middlesbrough Borough Council shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as the work is carried out before 1st April 1999.
