Section 1 Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Nursery Education (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 29 August 1997.

Section 2 Amendment of Regulations

(1) The Nursery Education Regulations 1996 shall be amended as follows.

(2) Regulation 4 shall be amended by the insertion at the end of the definition of “unit amount” in paragraph (1) of the words “(otherwise than under regulation 4A)”, and by the insertion after paragraph (1), of the following paragraph, namely—

(1A) In relation to the provision of nursery education by a local authority in Wales, this regulation applies only for the purpose of determining grant in respect of nursery education provided by the authority during the period ending on 31st August 1997.

(3) There shall be inserted after regulation 4 the following regulation—

(4A)

(1) This regulation applies for the purpose of determining the amount of grant to be made to a local authority in Wales in respect of nursery education provided by them during the period commencing on 1st September 1997 and ending on 31st March 1998.

(2) The amount of grant made to a local authority under this regulation shall be obtained by deducting from the amount specified by the Secretary of State, in relation to that authority, for the purpose of determining under this regulation the amount of grant to be made to them, the aggregate amount of grant made to the authority under regulation 4 in relation to that authority.
