Section 1 Citation

This Order may be cited as the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 (Commencement No.3) Order 1997.

Section 2 Commencement of provisions

Subject to article 3 below, the following provisions of the Local Government and Rating Act 1997 shall come into force on 1st December 1997:–

(a) section 5 and Schedule 2 (relief from non-domestic rates for general stores etc. in rural settlements: Scotland);

(b) section 8 (orders under section 6 and Schedule 2);

(c) section 33(1) (minor and consequential amendments), insofar as it relates to the provision mentioned in paragraph (d) below; and

(d) paragraph 29(b) of Schedule 3 (amendment of Schedule 12 to the Local Government Finance Act 1992 ).

Section 3 Transitional provision

Nothing in article 2(a) above shall result in a rural settlement list having effect for a financial year which commenced prior to 1st April 1998.
