The Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 (Commencement) Order 1997
In this Order “the 1997 (No. 2) Act ” means the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997.
The provisions of the 1997 (No. 2) Act specified in Part I of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 17th December 1997, save that:
(a) subsections (3) and (4) of section 2 shall come into force on that date for the purposes only of making a compensation scheme, and
(b) subsection (7) of section 2 shall come into force on that date to the extent only that it relates to the repeals listed in the said Part I.
Subject to article 5 below the provisions of the 1997 (No. 2) Act specified in Part II of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st February 1998.
The provisions referred to in article 4 above shall not have effect until 1st March 1998 in relation to—
(a) the possession, sale or transfer of a small-calibre pistol by a person who, immediately before 1st February 1998, has the pistol in his possession by virtue of:
(i) a firearm certificate or a visitor’s firearm permit, or
(ii) a permit issued under section 7 of the Firearms Act 1968 , or
(b) the possession, purchase, acquisition, sale or transfer of a small-calibre pistol by a registered firearms dealer.
