Section 1 Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st April 1997 (“the commencement day”).

(2) In these Regulations `the principal regulations' means the Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) Regulations 1991 .

Section 2 Increase of allowances

(1) The principal regulations are amended as follows.

(2) In regulation 17(2) (allowance in respect of conferences and meetings) for “£26.96” there is substituted, in relation to attendance at a conference or meeting on or after the commencement day, “£27.70”.

(3) In regulation 18(1) (attendance allowance) for “£26.96” there is substituted, in respect of an approved duty performed on or after the commencement day, “£27.70”.

(4) In regulation 18(2) (financial loss allowance), in respect of an approved duty performed on or after the commencement day—

(a) in paragraph (a) for “£23.10” there is substituted “£23.96”, and

(b) in paragraphs (b) and (c), for “£46.21” there is substituted “£47.92”.
