Section 1 Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the General Teaching Council for Wales Order 1998.

(2) This article and article 3 of this Order shall come into force on 30th December 1998, and article 2 shall come into force on 1st September 2000.

(3) In this Order, “ the Act ” means the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998.

Section 2 Establishment of the General Teaching Council for Wales

There shall be a body corporate to be known as the General Teaching Council for Wales which shall exercise, in relation to Wales, as from 1st September 2000, the functions conferred on them by or under Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the Act.

Section 3 Application of Section 1 and Schedule 1 to the General Teaching Council for Wales

Section 1(2) and (4) to (9) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Act shall have effect in relation to the General Teaching Council for Wales as they have effect in relation to the General Teaching Council for England.
