(1) This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Stipendiary Magistrates Order 1999 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
(2) In this Order “stipendiary magistrate” means a stipendiary magistrate appointed under section 11 of the Justices of the Peace Act 1997 in any commission area or areas outside the inner London area and the City of London.
The maximum number of stipendiary magistrates specified for the purposes of section 11(4) of the Justices of the Peace Act 1997 shall be 56.
