Section 1

(1) This Order may be cited as the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1999 (Commencement) Order 1999.

(2) In this Order “ the Act ” means the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1999.

Section 2

(1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), sections 1 to 4 (together with Schedules 1 to 4) of the Act shall come into force on 1st May 1999.

(2) So much of section 1 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Act as confers any power to make subordinate legislation shall come into force on 16th March 1999.

(3) For the purposes only of determining the area which a Member of the European Parliament which is in existence when sections 1 to 4 (together with Schedules 1 to 4) of the Act come into force represents, those provisions shall not have effect until the first sitting of the European Parliament which replaces that Parliament.
