Section 1 Citation, interpretation and application

(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000.

(2) References in this Order to sections and Schedules are (except for the reference in article 3 to section 100D(2)) references to sections of, and Schedules to, the Local Government Act 2000.

(3) This Order applies in relation to England only.

Section 2 Provisions coming into force on 7th August 2000

The following provisions shall come into force on 7th August 2000—

(a) sections 10, 12, 17 to 20, 30, 32, 34 to 36, 38, 41, 47 and 48;

(b) sections 11, 13, 22, 25, 27, 28, 31, 33, 37, 39, 44 and 45, in so far as they confer power to make an order or regulations, give directions, or issue guidance, and

(c) section 23, to the extent that it relates to paragraphs 6, 7 and 9 to 11 of Schedule 1.

Section 3 Provisions coming into force in relation to England on 1st October 2000

Sections 97 and 98, and section 107(2), to the extent that it relates to the entries in Schedule 6 relating to section 100D(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 , shall come into force on 1st October 2000.
