These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Prisons) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 11th May 2001.

The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Prisons) Regulations 2001
The Regulations specified in the First Schedule hereto are hereby revoked.
(1) This regulation applies to each of the prisons specified in column 1 of the Second Schedule hereto, each of which for the purpose of this regulation shall be taken to comprise either an area bounded by a circle of the radius specified in column 2 of the said Schedule opposite its name centred on the position so specified in column 3 of the said Schedule or in the case of Altcourse, Belmarsh and Frankland the area described in column 2 of the said Schedule.
(2) Subject to paragraph (3), no helicopter shall fly over a prison to which this regulation applies below such height above mean sea level as is specified in column 4 of the said Schedule opposite its name.
(3) Nothing in this regulation shall prohibit:
(a) in relation to the high security prison at Bristol, flight by any helicopter flying within the Bristol (Filton) aerodrome control zone under the control of the air traffic control unit at Bristol (Filton) aerodrome;
(b) flight by any helicopter operated by or on behalf of a police force for any area of the United Kingdom; or
(c) in relation to the high security prison at Belmarsh; flight by any helicopter flying in accordance with the Instrument Flight Rules and in accordance with instructions given by the air traffic control unit at London City airport.
