Section 1 Citation and commencement

These rules may be cited as the General Medical Council (Professional Performance) (Amendment) Rules 2001, and shall come into force on 12th December 2001.

Section 2 Amendment of the General Medical Council (Professional Performance) Rules 1997

(1) The General Medical Council (Professional Performance) Rules 1997 shall be amended as follows.

(2) The following rule shall be substituted for rule 6(1)—

An assessment may be carried out otherwise than in accordance with a direction at this stage in the consideration of a case for the purposes of paragraph 5A(1)(b) of Schedule 4 to the Act where either the medical screener is of the opinion that an assessment needs to be carried out, or the case is one to which rule 5(8) applies.
