Section 1Citation, commencement and extent

These Regulations may be cited as the Education Standards Fund (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 1st August 2002.

Section 2Citation, commencement and extent

The Education Standards Fund (England) Regulations 2002 shall be amended as follows.

Section 3Citation, commencement and extent

In regulation 2(1), there shall be inserted after “obtained at least 5 grades A* to C;”—

“ ICT ” means information and communication technology;

In regulation 5(1)—

(a) after “2(b)” there shall be inserted “and (c)”

(b) for “6(a) and (c)” there shall be substituted “6(a), (c), (d), (e) and (f)”.

In Schedule 1—

(a) In paragraph 2(a) after “Support” there shall be inserted—

(save as mentioned in sub-paragraph (c) below)

(b) After paragraph 2(b), there shall be inserted—

(c) Improving the attendance and behaviour of pupils through the implementation of a Behaviour Improvement Programme

(c) In paragraph 6(b), before “Enabling schools”, there shall be inserted “(Save as mentioned in sub-paragraphs (e) and (f) below)”; and

(d) After paragraph 6(c), there shall be inserted—

(d) The preparation of plans in respect of Private Finance Initiative projects to support the raising of standards through Information and Communication Technology initiatives;

(e) Enabling schools, through the use of electronic learning credits provided by the Department for Education and Skills, to secure access for teachers and pupils to online learning materials, such as are demonstrated on the Department for Education and Skills' internet portal for the scheme known as Curriculum Online;

(f) The study and evaluation of the impact on educational standards and on the workload of teachers of ICT equipment, in particular through—

(i) the provision of interactive whiteboards to support strategies to improve standards in literacy and numeracy in primary schools, and

(ii) the provision to specific schools of a particularly wide range of ICT equipment, software, training and support.
