Section 1Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the District of East Dorset (Electoral Changes) Order 2002.

(2) This Order shall come into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to any election to be held on 1st May 2003, on 15th October 2002;

(b) for all other purposes, on 1st May 2003.

Section 2Interpretation

In this Order—

“district” means the district of East Dorset;

“existing”, in relation to a ward, means the ward as it exists on the date this Order is made;

any reference to the map is a reference to the map marked “Map referred to in the District of East Dorset (Electoral Changes) Order 2002”, of which prints are available for inspection at—

(a) the principal office of the Electoral Commission; and

(b) the offices of East Dorset District Council; and

any reference to a numbered sheet is a reference to the sheet of the map which bears that number.

Section 3Wards of the district of East Dorset

(1) The existing wards of the district shall be abolished.

(2) The district shall be divided into twenty-four wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 1.

(3) The wards shall comprise the areas described in column (2) of that Schedule by reference to parishes or parish wards or, where an area is not so described, the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by red lines; and the number of councillors to be elected for each ward shall be the number specified in respect of the ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

(4) Where a boundary is shown on the map as running along a road, railway line, footway, watercourse or similar geographical feature, it shall be treated as running along the centre line of the feature.

Section 4Wards of the parish of Alderholt

The parish of Alderholt shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 2; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule; and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 5Wards of the parish of Colehill

(1) The parish of Colehill shall be divided into four parish wards which shall bear the names Colehill East, Colehill West, Lacy and Parmiter; and the wards shall comprise the areas designated on sheet 8 by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.

(2) The number of councillors to be elected for the Colehill East parish ward shall be nine, for the Colehill West parish ward shall be four and for each of the Lacy and Parmiter parish wards shall be one.

Section 6Wards of the parish of Corfe Mullen

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Corfe Mullen shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into three parish wards that shall bear the names Corfe Mullen Central, Corfe Mullen North and Corfe Mullen South; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward bearing the same name.

(3) The number of councillors to be elected for the Corfe Mullen Central parish ward shall be eight and for each of the Corfe Mullen North and Corfe Mullen South parish wards shall be four.

Section 7Wards of the parish of Ferndown

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Ferndown shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into seven parish wards which shall bear the names Ameysford, Ferndown Central, Ferndown Links, Ferndown Links South, Longham, Longham East and Stapehill; and the wards shall comprise the areas designated on sheet 9 by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.

(3) The number of councillors to be elected for each of the Ameysford, Longham and Stapehill parish wards shall be three, for each of the Ferndown Central and Ferndown Links parish wards shall be six and for each of the Ferndown Links South and Longham East parish wards shall be one.

Section 8Wards of the parish of Horton

The parish shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 3; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule, and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 9Wards of the parish of Pamphill

The parish shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 4; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule, and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 10Wards of the parish of Verwood

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Verwood shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into four parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 5; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2); and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 11Wards of the parish of Wimborne Minster

(1) The parish shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 6; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule, and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 12Numbers of parish councillors

The number of parish councillors to be elected for the parish of Moor Crichel shall be two.

Section 13Maps

East Dorset District Council shall make a print of the map marked “Map referred to in the District of East Dorset (Electoral Changes) Order 2002” available for inspection at its offices by any member of the public at any reasonable time.

Section 14Electoral registers

The Electoral Registration Officer for the district shall make such rearrangement of, or adaptation of, the register of local government electors as may be necessary for the purposes of, and in consequence of, this Order.

Section 15Revocation

The District of Wimborne (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1980 is revoked, save for article 4.
