Section 1Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the District of Kerrier (Electoral Changes) Order 2002.

(2) This Order shall come into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to any election to be held on 1st May 2003, on the day after that on which it is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on 1st May 2003.

Section 2Interpretation

In this Order—

“district” means the District of Kerrier;

“existing”, in relation to a ward, means the ward as it exists on the date this Order is made;

any reference to a map is a reference to the map marked “Map referred to in the District of Kerrier (Electoral Changes) Order 2002”, of which prints are available for inspection at—

(a) the principal office of the Electoral Commission

(b) the offices of Kerrier District Council

any reference to a numbered sheet is a reference to the sheet of the map which bears that number.

Section 3Wards of the District of Kerrier

(1) The existing wards of the District of Kerrier shall be abolished.

(2) The district shall be divided into twenty wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 1

(3) The wards shall comprise the areas described in column (2) of that Schedule by reference to parishes or, where an area is not so described, the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by red lines; and the number of councillors to be elected for each ward shall be the number specified in respect of the ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

(4) Where a boundary is shown on the map as running along a road, railway line, footway, watercourse or similar geographical feature, it shall be treated as running along the centre line of the feature.

Section 4Wards of the parish of Camborne

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Camborne shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into three parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 2; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule; and the number of parish councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be six.

Section 5Wards of the parish of Carn Brea

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Carn Brea shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into four parish wards which shall bear the names Barncoose, East Hill, Four Lanes and Pool; and the parish wards shall comprise the areas designated on sheet (5) by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.

(3) The number of parish councillors to be elected for the parish ward of East Hill shall be one, and for each of the parish wards of Barncoose, Four Lanes and Pool shall be five.

Section 6Wards of the parish of Illogan

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Illogan shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into three parish wards which shall bear the names Illogan, Park Bottom and Tehidy; and the wards shall comprise the areas designated on sheet (5) by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.

(3) The number of councillors to be elected for the parish ward of Park Bottom shall be two, for the parish ward of Tehidy shall be three and for the parish ward of Illogan shall be nine.

Section 7Wards of the parish of Redruth

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Redruth shall be abolished.

(2) The parish shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 3; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule; and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be seven.

Section 8Wards of the parish of Sithney

The parish of Sithney shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of Schedule 4; each parish ward shall comprise the area of the district ward specified in respect of the parish ward in column (2) of that Schedule; and the number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward shall be the number specified in respect of the parish ward in column (3) of that Schedule.

Section 9Wards of the parish of Wendron

(1) The parish of Wendron shall be divided into two parish wards which shall bear the names Trewennack and Wendron; the parish ward of Wendron shall comprise the area of the district ward of the same name, and the parish ward of Trewennack shall comprise the rest of the parish.

(2) The number of parish councillors to be elected for the parish ward of Trewennack shall be two, and for the parish ward of Wendron shall be thirteen.

Section 10Maps

Kerrier District Council shall make a print of the map marked “Map referred to in the District of Kerrier (Electoral Changes) Order 2002” available for inspection at its offices by any member of the public at any reasonable time.

Section 11Electoral Registers

The Electoral Registration Officer for the district shall make such rearrangement of, or adaptation of, the register of local government electors as may be necessary for the purposes of, and in consequence of this Order.

Section 12Revocation

The District of Kerrier (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1978 is revoked, save for article 8.
