Section 1

This Order may be cited as the Police (Secretary of State’s Objectives) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st April 2002.

Section 2

The Police (Secretary of State’s Objectives) ( No. 3) Order 1999 is hereby revoked.

Section 3

The objectives for the policing of the areas of all police authorities established under section 3 of the Police Act 1996 and of the Metropolitan Police Authority are—

(a) to help create safe communities by reducing crime, anti-social behaviour and disorder through effective partnership working, including reducing the availability and use of Class A drugs;

(b) to reduce the fear of crime in all sections of the community and in particular to increase the trust and confidence in policing amongst minority ethnic communities; and

(c) to increase the number of offences for which offenders, and particularly persistent offenders, are caught and brought to justice, in partnership with other criminal justice agencies.
