Section 1Citation, commencement and application

(1) This Order may be cited as the Berkshire (Coroners' Districts) Order 2004.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st April 2004.

(3) This Order shall not have effect in relation to any inquest begun before the day on which it comes into force or to any post-mortem examination which, before that day, a coroner has directed or requested a medical practitioner to make.

Section 2Amalgamation of coroners' districts

(1) The existing coroners' districts in the County of Berkshire, that is to say the one consisting of the Borough of Reading; the one consisting of the District of Newbury; and the one consisting of the Boroughs of Bracknell Forest, Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead and the District of Wokingham , shall be amalgamated to form one coroner’s district to be known as the Berkshire Coroner’s District.

(2) Accordingly, the County of Berkshire shall constitute a single coroner’s district consisting of the whole of that county.

Section 3Amalgamation of coroners' districts

The council of the Borough of Reading shall be the relevant council within the meaning of section 1(1A) of the Coroners Act 1988 for the coroner’s district constituted by article 2 above.
