This Order may be cited as the Education (Amendment of the Curriculum Requirements for Second Key Stage) (England) Order 2013 and comes into force on 1st September 2014.

The Education (Amendment of the Curriculum Requirements for Second Key Stage) (England) Order 2013
In section 84 of the Education Act 2002 (curriculum requirements for first, second and third key stages)—
(a) after paragraph (g) of subsection (3) (but before the “and” following it) insert—
(ga) in relation to the second key stage, a foreign language,
(b) for subsection (4) substitute—
(A4) In paragraph (ga) of subsection (3) “foreign language” means –
(a) a foreign language specified in an order made by the Secretary of State for the purposes of this subsection, or
(b) if the order provides that any foreign language is a foreign language for the purposes of this subsection, any foreign language;
(4) In sub-paragraph (ii) of subsection (3)(h) “modern foreign language” means –
(a) a modern foreign language specified in an order made by the Secretary of State for the purposes of this subsection, or
(b) if the order provides that any modern foreign language is a modern foreign language for the purposes of this subsection, any modern foreign language.
(c) in subsection (5) after “subsection” insert “(A4) or”; and
(d) in paragraph (b) of subsection (5) for “modern foreign language” substitute “foreign language or modern foreign language, as the case may be”.
