Section 1Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Care and Support (Sight-impaired and Severely Sight-impaired Adults) Regulations 2014 and come into force immediately after section 77(1) of the Care Act 2014 comes fully into force.

(2) In these Regulations “consultant ophthalmologist” means a consultant or honorary consultant appointed in the medical speciality of ophthalmology, who is employed for the purposes of providing any service as part of the health service .

Section 2Persons to be treated as sight-impaired or severely sight-impaired

(1) For the purposes of section 77 of the Care Act 2014, a person is to be treated as being sight-impaired if the person is certified as such by a consultant ophthalmologist.

(2) For the purposes of that section, a person is to be treated as being severely sight-impaired if the person is certified as such by a consultant ophthalmologist.
