Section 1 Citation and commencement

These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Regulations 2016 and come into force on 31st December 2016.

Section 2 Amendment of the Road Traffic Act 1988

(1) The Road Traffic Act 1988 is amended as follows.

(2) In section 145(4)(b) (requirements in respect of policies of insurance) for “£1,000,000” substitute “£1,200,000”.

(3) In section 151(6) (duty of insurers or persons giving security to satisfy judgment against persons insured or secured against third-party risks) for “£1,000,000”, in each place where it occurs, substitute “£1,200,000”.

Section 3 Revocation

The Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Regulations 2007 are revoked.
