The West Sussex (Electoral Changes) Order 2016

Section 1 Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the West Sussex (Electoral Changes) Order 2016.

(2) This article and article 2 come into force on the day after the day on which this Order is made.

(3) Article 3 comes into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary, or relating, to the election of councillors, on the day after the day on which it is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England and Wales in 2017.

(4) Articles 4 to 9 and Schedule 2 come into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary, or relating, to the election of councillors, on the day after the day on which it is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England and Wales in 2019.

(5) Article 10 and Schedule 3 come into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary, or relating, to the election of councillors, on the day after it is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England and Wales in 2020.

Section 2 Interpretation

(1) In this Order “the map” means the map marked “Map referred to in the West Sussex (Electoral Changes) Order 2016”, held by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England .

(2) Where a boundary is shown on the map as running along a road, railway line, footway, watercourse or similar geographical feature, it is to be treated as running along the centre line of the feature.

Section 3 Divisions of the county of West Sussex and number of councillors

(1) The existing divisions of the county of West Sussex are abolished.

(2) The county of West Sussex is divided into 70 divisions as listed in the first column of the table in Schedule 1.

(3) Each division comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the division.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each division is the number specified in relation to that division in the second column of the table in Schedule 1.

Section 4 Wards of the parish of Ansty & Staplefield and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Ansty & Staplefield are abolished.

(2) The parish of Ansty & Staplefield is divided into four parish wards as listed in the first column of table 1 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 1 in Schedule 2.

Section 5 Wards of the parish of Bognor Regis and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Bognor Regis are abolished.

(2) The parish of Bognor Regis is divided into five parish wards as listed in the first column of table 2 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 2 in Schedule 2.

Section 6 Wards of the parish of Burgess Hill and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Burgess Hill are abolished.

(2) The parish of Burgess Hill is divided into ten parish wards as listed in the first column of table 3 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 3 in Schedule 2.

Section 7 Wards of the parish of Chichester and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Chichester are abolished.

(2) The parish of Chichester is divided into ten parish wards as listed in the first column of table 4 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 4 in Schedule 2.

Section 8 Wards of the parish of Littlehampton and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Littlehampton are abolished.

(2) The parish of Littlehampton is divided into six parish wards as listed in the first column of table 5 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 5 in Schedule 2.

Section 9 Wards of the parish of North Horsham and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of North Horsham are abolished.

(2) The parish of North Horsham is divided into five parish wards as listed in the first column of table 6 in Schedule 2.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of table 6 in Schedule 2.

Section 10 Wards of the parish of Lancing and number of councillors

(1) The existing wards of the parish of Lancing are abolished.

(2) The parish of Lancing is divided into five parish wards as listed in the first column of the table in Schedule 3.

(3) Each parish ward comprises the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the parish ward.

(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each parish ward is the number specified in relation to that ward in the second column of the table in Schedule 3.
