Section 1 Citation

This Order may be cited as the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Laying Hens and Pullets (Appointed Day and Revocation) (England) Order 2018.

Section 2 Appointed day

The day appointed for the coming into force of the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Laying Hens and Pullets is 8th August 2018.

Section 3 Revocation

The Code of Recommendations for the Welfare of Livestock: Laying Hens is revoked on 8th August 2018.

Section 4 Transitional provision

(1) This article applies in relation to any proceedings arising from a complaint (whenever presented) alleging that a person has, before 8th August 2018, caused unnecessary suffering to an animal under section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

(2) Where this article applies—

(a) the Code of Practice referred to in article 2 has no effect for the purposes of section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, and

(b) the Code of Recommendations referred to in article 3 continues to have effect for the purposes of that section.
