Section 1Citation and commencement

(1) This Order may be cited as the Canterbury (Electoral Changes) Order 2019.

(2) This article and article 2 come into force on the day after the day on which this Order is made.

(3) Article 3 comes into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors, on the day after the day on which this Order is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England in 2019.

(4) Article 4 comes into force—

(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors, on the day after the day on which this Order is made;

(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England in 2021.

Section 2Interpretation

(1) In this Order “the Council’s Order” means the Canterbury City Council (Reorganisation of Community Governance) Order 2018 .

Section 3Alteration of district ward boundaries

(1) Each area that ceases to be part of a parish listed in the first column of the table in the Schedule and becomes part of the parish listed in the corresponding entry in the second column of that table, in consequence of the Council’s Order, ceases to be part of the district ward listed in the corresponding entry in the third column of that table and becomes part of the district ward listed in the corresponding entry in the fourth column of that table.

(2) In further consequence of the Council’s Order, the area that ceases to be part of the parish of Lower Hardres and becomes an unparished area ceases to be part of Chartham & Stone Street district ward and becomes part of Barton district ward.

Section 4Alteration of county electoral division boundary

(1) In consequence of the Council’s Order, the area that ceases to be part of the parish of Lower Hardres and becomes an unparished area ceases to be part of the Canterbury South electoral division and becomes part of the Canterbury City South electoral division.
