Section 1Citation, commencement and interpretation

(1) This Order may be cited as the Access to the Countryside (Coastal Margin) (Gretna to Allonby) (No. 1) Order 2023 and comes into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

(2) In this Order—

(a) “ the Act ” means the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 ;

(b) “ the relevant approval ” means the approval on 1st October 2021 by the Secretary of State under section 52(1) of the Act of—

(i) the proposal for the coastal path from the Scottish Border at Gretna to north of Kirkandrews-on-Eden contained within the relevant report;

(ii) the proposal for the coastal path from Rumbling Bridge to Allonby contained within the relevant report.

(c) “ the relevant report ” means the report submitted by Natural England to the Secretary of State under sections 51 and 55A of the Act on 25th July 2016 entitled Gretna to Allonby.

Section 2End of access preparation period

In relation to land which is coastal margin as a result of the relevant approvals, the day appointed as the day on which the access preparation period ends is 23rd November 2023.
