Cargo Damage Survey: When cargo is found damaged, it is necessary to estimate the
extent of damage and also to find out the cause of damage for a claim for compensation.
Damaged cargo must be verified as soon as it has been identified, latest at the time of
arrival of the vessel and cargo at the destination. In trade business, the usual procedure is
that when the damage is covered by insurance, and when the liability of damage lies with
the shippers, the surveyor's report is submitted to the insurance company for a claim for
compensation. This survey is usually called Damage Survey and the report is an important
part of the process of claiming liability for damage.

Survey on Ship's Hull, Engine, etc. ON/OFF Hire Survey
Marine surveyor conducts survey by experienced surveyors with sufficient knowledge on
not only cargoes but also hull, machinery and other sections of a ship as shown below:
1. To survey a hull and her machinery and collect relevant data when chartering of the ship
is commenced or terminated.
2. To ascertain the extent of damage to a hull and her engine involved in an accident,
investigate the cause and, if necessary, estimate repairing charges.
3. To conduct an on-the-spot survey on damage to loading equipment, ship and/or cargo
caused by an accident during loading or unloading and to estimate the amount of loss.
4. To inspect the tow worthiness of a vessel such as a dredger, crane boat, barge or ship
under towage, marking necessary recommendation to ensure the safety of towing
navigation.
